Henan Provincial Government Scholarship for Zhengzhou University

Henan Provincial Government Scholarshipis established by the Government of Henan Province to support outstanding international students and scholars to study in degree or non-degree programs offered by universities in Henan province.

A.Introduction of Zhengzhou University

Zhengzhou University lies in the capital city of Henan Province, Zhengzhou. The University was founded through the merger of three universities: the precedent Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou University of Technology and Henan Medical University on July 10, 2000.Zhengzhou University is a comprehensive university with 12 disciplines: Science, Engineering, Medicine, Literature, History, Philosophy, Law, Economics, Management Science, Pedagogy,Agriculture and Arts. Zhengzhou University is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China and the Henan Provincial Government. Zhengzhou University is admitted into Project 211, the Midwest Universities Comprehensive Strength Promotion Project,and the Training Program of Excellence in Physician, Engineers and Law Education and the United Nations Academic Impact member.

B.Program Categories

This scholarship supports foreign students or scholars to accomplish their degree programs or non-degree programs in Zhengzhou University. Degree programs are available at the bachelor, master and doctoral
levels. Non-degree students include Chinese language students, general scholars, advanced scholars and research scholars.

All the programs offered in Zhengzhou University are entitled to recruit international students and scholars. Majority of programs offered in Zhengzhou University are instructed in Chinese. C.Scholarship Duration

Scholarship recipients will be sponsored for their study in Zhengzhou University. The duration of scholarship will be:
  • Undergraduate students: less than 4 academic years (5 or 6 years for medical students);
  • Master students: no more than 3 academic years;
  • Doctoral students: no more than 4 academic years;
  • Chinese language students: no more than 1 academic year;
  • General Scholars: no more than 2 academic years;
  • Advanced Scholars: no more than 2 academic years;
  • Research scholars: no more than 2 academic years.
  • The scholarship duration specified in the Letter of Acceptance cannot be extended. The scholarship of degree program instructed in Chinese does not cover Chinese language training cost, if applicants need Chinese language training, they should apply for extra scholarship for Chinese language program. Only when they satisfy the language requirement, can they then apply for degree funding.

D.Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship only covers partial cost of applicant’s study. The costs of study include registration fee, tuition fee (including internship fee), learning materials fee, accommodation and living cost, insurance, physical examination fee, residence permit fee and traveling expenses in or outside of China. If the scholarship cannot cover all the expenditures, applicants are expected to pay for the exceeding part. Otherwise, the scholarship will be automatically cancelled.

E.Scholarship Classifications

This scholarship is divided into Type A scholarship and Type B scholarship. Master and doctor degree can be sponsored by either Type A or Type B scholarship, while students for other programs only can apply for Type B scholarship.

F.Amount of Scholarship

Type A scholarship
  • Master’s students: 30,000 RMB/year/person
  • Doctoral students: 40,000 RMB/year/person
Type B scholarship
  • Undergraduate students: 15,000 RMB/year/person
  • Master’s students: 20,000 RMB/year/person
  • Doctoral students: 20,000 RMB/year/person
  • Chinese language students: 5,000 RMB/year/person
  • General scholars: 8,000 RMB/year/person
  • Advanced scholars: 8,000 RMB/year/person
  • Research scholars: 8,000/RMB/year/person

H. Applicants Qualification

a. Applicant shall be non-Chinese citizen; healthy, without any criminal records.
b. Abide by Chinese laws, regulations, and university’s regulations.
c. Have good attitude toward learning, and have obtained good achievements in study.
d. Educational and age requirements:
  • A high school diploma or above or equivalent holder under the age of 30 when applying for undergraduate programs; 
  • A bachelor degree holder or above, under the age of 40 when applying for master programs; 
  • A master degree holder or above under the age of 45 when applying for doctoral programs; 
  • A high school diploma holder or above or equivalent under the age of 55 when applying for Chinese language programs; 
  • Be a sophomore or above or bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 30 when applying for general scholars programs; 
  • Be a master degree holder or above under the age of 40 when applying for advanced scholars programs; 
  • Be a doctordegree holder or above, or associate professor or above under the age of 45 when applying for Research Scholars programs; 
e. Language Proficiency Requirement 
  • For admission to programs instructed in Chinese, applicants must have appropriate level of Chinese and provide relevant certificates, such as HSK certificate, or other Chinese learning and examination certificate; 
  • For admission to programs instructed in English, applicants from non-native English-speaking countries must have appropriate level of English and provide relevant certificates, such as IELTS certificate, or TOEFL certificate; 
  • For admission to programs instructed in English, applicants from English-speaking countries must provide English scores; 
  • For admission to Chinese language programs, applicants are not required to have prior knowledge of Chinese language. 
f. Applicants who have already obtained any sort of scholarship, such as Chinese Government Scholarship, ConfuciusInstituteScholarship, Foreign Government Scholarship, Foreign Enterprises Scholarship, Chinese Enterprises Scholarship, or Chinese University and Foreign Student Scholarship are not permitted to apply this scholarship. 

I. Application Documents

Applicants must complete and summit authentic application documents listed below:
  • a. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English)
  • b. Original copy of highest diploma, or the notarized copy, if applicants are current students or holding occupations, study certificate provided by their current schools or current employmentcertificate will be additionally required. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must provide notarized copies in either of these two languages.
  • c. Applicants for degree program should provide the original transcripts of their previous study. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English should provide notarized copies in either of these two languages.
  • d. Applicants for undergraduate programs/general scholars programs, master programs/advanced scholars programs, and doctoral programs/research scholars programs must provide a study plan or research proposal in Chinese or English with a minimum of 200 words, 400 words, and 600 words respectively.
  • e. Applicants for postgraduate programs/advanced scholars programs, and doctoral programs/research scholars programs must provide two recommendation letters in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
  • f. Applicants for music studies, fine arts studies and other art related programs are requested to submit original work according to the school requirements.
  • g. The official recognized Report of Chinese or English Language Proficiency Tests or equivalent Language Ability Certificate.
  • h. The originals or their notarized copies of Foreigner Physical Examination Form and Blood Test Report completed in Chinese or English.
  • i. The original certificate or its notarized copy of Non-criminal Record. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must provide notarized copies in either of these two languages.
  • j. If the applicants are under the age of 18, LetterofAuthorization or Guardian Book in China authorized by Chinese embassiesin other countries must be submitted.
  • The above documents should be in duplicate; No matter the application is successful or not, those documents will not be returned.

J. Application Deadline

Applicants should submit application to Zhengzhou University undertaking this program between January 1stand April 30th, 2016.

K. Application Receiving Agency

Applicants can submit application directly to Zhengzhou University or through recruitment agent authorized by Zhengzhou University. Applicants can submit application document online at: A package of paper-based application documents (in duplicate) should be sent to Zhengzhou University before the deadline.

L. Approval and Notification

Zhengzhou University will review the application documents and decide the admission list. The notification of results will be communicated before June 15th. Admission notice and visa application form and other materials will be sent to successful applicants through international express before June 30th.

M. Visa Application

Students under Henan Government Scholarship should apply for visa to study in China at the Chinese embassies in foreign countries with the Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study In China, Foreigner Physical Examination Form with blood test report. Whoever comes to China with other types of passports and visas will be considered as voluntarily giving up the scholarship and will not be able to register with the institution.

N. Registration

Scholarship students must register to the institution at the time specified by Zhengzhou University with visa, Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study in China. Those who can not register on time should seek permission from the institution, and the leave of absence cannot exceed for 2 weeks. Whoever is absent without asking for leave or exceeding the required date will be considered as giving up enrollment and scholarship. Any costs incurred should be covered by students themselves.

O. Health Verification and Residence Registration

a. Accommodation registration: Scholarship students are requested to fill in temporary accommodation registration with the help of staffs within 24 hours on their arrival. The registration will be reported to the local police station.
b. Health examination: Scholarship students are requested to go to local health and quarantine office within 7 days on their arrival. Those who refuse to take the health examination or diagnosed any diseases that are not permitted to enter China under the Chinese laws and regulations will be required to leave China, and the scholarship will automatically be withdrawn.
c. Residence registration: After the health examination, the scholarship students must apply for residence permit from Exit-Entry Administration Department of Zhengzhou Public Security Bureau within 30 days on their arrival

P. Change of Major or Institution and Extension of Study

Scholarship students are not allowed to change their majors, institutions or extend their study. In special case, application should be submitted to the Department of Education of Henan Province by Zhengzhou University. Upon approval, the students can change their majors, institutions or extend their study.

Q. The Annual Review of Henan Government Scholarship Status

In order to make full use of the scholarship, the institutions will make an annual review of the scholarship students who have been approved to study in China for more than one year in accordance with Measures for the Annual Review of Henan Government Scholarship Status. It will decide whether scholarship students are qualified to continue enjoying or to renew their scholarship.
